Enzyme Deficiency – Is this your problem? PDF Print E-mail
Written by Elaine Newkirk

As we evaluate our health we often forget that the supplements we take only work if they are absorbed. I spent a considerable amount of time last year on the subject of enzymes. I found it to be a root cause for many other imbalances. One of the imbalances that we have seen tremendous improvement in is weight management.

It came as a bit of a bonus the first couple of times. Putting a person on the correct enzyme didn’t seem like the reason they should be loosing 2-5 pounds per week, but after observing this side-effect on several clients I started to put two and two together.
As you have all heard me say “Look at the foods you eat frequently, your food sensitivity is there in the top 10 favorite foods.” Now let’s backtrack then take that statement a step further.

We often crave the foods that would provide us with a nutrient we are deficient in. For example, chocolate craving often indicates a magnesium need. Chocolate is very high in magnesium. Not really a healthy source, but high in it just the same. Chips are high in sodium and in fat. Again, not the best source of your fat and sodium. Even with that in mind, if you look at the craved food's ingredients, you will get clues as to what your body is asking for.  Your body can’t just say “I need some nice healthy digestible fat please.” All it can do is give you the urge for fat. If you think about our diets you will see that we probably have plenty of fat but may not be breaking it down for absorption. This is often noted by feeling tension in the trapezius muscle. (That’s the muscle across the back of your shoulder that makes it shrug.) The enzyme that helps break down fat is lipase (Enzyme Solutions formula #2 and NSP Hi-Lipase are great sources ). The desire for fat will decrease naturally when you are able to meet the body’s needs by absorbing it properly.

Migraines PDF Print E-mail
Written by Elaine Newkirk

“It’s like an ice pick stabbing your head.” When it’s a bad attack, “it’s not just painful, it’s completely incapacitating.” Every movement intensifies the pain and all senses become hypersensitive so that “you can’t make the world dark [or quiet] enough.”

Migraines are caused - as the current theory goes - by an area of the brain stem that’s activated by triggers like weather, certain foods, and hormonal changes. When that area is activated, it leads to the inflammation and woman2dilation of blood vessels in the brain which cause the pain. You may already know this if you know what causes or helps them. The key in deciding what will help your migraine is to determine which type it is.

Air Freshener hazards PDF Print E-mail

This article comes to you as a result on an office experience. It was a severe reaction to the deodorizers AirFreshenerin the old rented office bathroom. This experience led us to question what goes into those sprays we smell everywhere. I think you will be surprised by the results of our search.

Advertisements on TV seem to make us now believe that the answer to a fresh smelling house is to mask the smell with some artificial odor that we will hopefully view as pleasant. Like vanilla cookies or apple pie.

Protein...How much is enough?
As you research this question you will certainly find many different opinions.

Protein Power by Michael & Mary Eades suggests that an adult needs 80 to 100 grams daily. Smokey Santillo in Intuitive Eating suggests a much lower amount, 25 to 35 grams per day. Prescription for Nutritional Healing by James Balch suggests that 50 grams is adequate for the average adult. So who do you believe?

chickenandeggsI respectively submit that the protein needs vary according to your ability to digest and utilize it. However, my experience suggests that women need 35 to 45 grams daily and men need 45 to 55 grams daily. If properly digested, these amounts are adequate.

Remember this !!! Just because you eat the correct amount of protein does not mean that you are digesting and utilizing it.  Now, lets look at some of the things that protein is responsible for in the body.

Protein is crucial in the balancing of hormones. So, if you are having problems with hormones in any way it is probably due to an incorrect level of protein in your body.

Digestion - Part 1 Print E-mail

Why Is Digestion Important?
When we eat such things as bread, meat, and vegetables, they are not in a form that the body can use as nourishment. Our food and drink must be changed into smaller molecules of nutrients before they can be absorbed into the blood and carried to cells throughout the body. Digestion is the process by which food and drink are broken down into their smallest parts so that the body can use them to build and nourish cells and to provide energy.
