I am sure you have all heard about the protective layer of weight that can happen when you are out of balance emotionally. If this is something new to you then I suggest that you look for the book Color Me Trim By Cheryl Townsley. I, however, would like to talk to you about a the emotions that directly affect the organs of digestion. They are anger, grief and control.
The Liver and anger
The liver is responsible for creating bile and it is the presence of bile that makes fat digestible. It breaks fat into smaller pieces so that enzymes like lipase can digest and utilize it. The emotion anger makes the liver less able to function and create bile. This can cause many fat deficiency symptoms. The releasing of anger comes through forgiveness and kindness. Even old stored anger can be an issue. Anger must be released for liver function to be balanced. A couple of ways to release anger are with prayer / meditation or flower essence therapy. The letting go of anger is often the key to allowing your body to utilize fats rather than store them.
The Pancreas and grief
The Pancreas is another organ that directly affects the digestion. As you may remember learning during the digestion articles, the pancreas is essential to the digestion of starches. Undigested starches are stored as fat for later energy use. If the fat is not used it remains stored in fat cells indefinitely. In emotional iridology, the emotion directly related to the pancreas is grief. This could be grief over the loss of a loved one. It could be because of lost opportunities in life or even be grief over a belief system you do not possess. These are dealt with nicely with flower essences, however the emotion must be recognized and balanced with the emotion bravery.
The Colon and control
Often we will see that calories can be overabsorbed because of constipation. The emotion attached to the colon is desire to control. If you are able to let go of issues involving control and delegate on a business and personal level these issues often resolve. Of coarse it is common to need a bowel and liver cleanse to get things started. Nature’s Sunshine Product Tao He Cleanse if great for this purpose.
Stress
Stress in any form will interfere with the production of hydrochloric acid and therefore interfere with the breakdown of protein and minerals. As you may remember in All About Protein the absorption of protein is vital to every function in the body, particularly the reproductive and immune systems. Obviously we can overeat for other emotional reasons such as boredom, loneliness and as a reward. No matter what the emotion it is easy to see that it can effect the ability to loose unwanted weight.
To help get your emotions in check, Ask yourself:
- What is it I am thankful for, right now?
- What in my life would I like to change, right now?
- Why do I want to change it?
- What will these changes bring about, either now or in the near future?
- What is it in my weight-loss efforts that I want to truly achieve?
- Why do I want these goals so bad?
- How will achieving them make me feel?
- Do I really need this cookie/cake/ice cream right now or am I pacifying something that is not going right for me, right now?
- How will giving in to these urges make me feel a little later, when the cycle of guilt comes back?
If you ask yourself some basic questions and learn to answer them honestly, you can start focusing on the things that really matter to you. When you start doing what matters, this in turn will bring about pleasure because you will have a sense of purpose and a feeling of relief knowing that you are working on making things better.
